THE GREATNESS OF THE JUNK THINKING
By Salvador Montoya/Writer
A great satirist like Jonathan Swift or Mark Twain or Saki in their works may often depict man as a fool. Nevertheless, in our present world we don’t need too much effort or skill to watch fools ruling nations and destroying cultures. Simón Bolivar in his powerful Angostura’s Speech guessed correctly: “An ignorant nation is a blind tool for its own destruction.” (Simón Bolivar, Doctrina Del Libertador, Caracas, Biblioteca Ayacucho, 2009, p. 178). The greatness of the junk thinking is assumed by the fools as their most loved philosophy. Noam Chomsky points us the 10 strategies of manipulation by the media, the eighth of them says: “To encourage the public to be complacent with mediocrity. Promote the public to believe that the fact is fashionable to be stupid, vulgar and uneducated.” (Noam Chomsky, Las 10 estrategias de manipulación mediática in Últimas Noticias, 20/03/2011, p. 26). So, the doctrine of junk thinking has, at least three factors. Living without historical consciousness is the goal of the fools. If we want to criticize our World-System, the establishment tells us that we don’t need to read Bordieu, Marx, Dussel, Wallerstein and their studies and theories. We just need to be dominated by the laws of the market. In other words, we are excluded from the history, literature, arts, and culture. A person without identity is a stupid. The wonderful Venezuelan satirist Otrova Gomás wrote in his book El hombre más malo del mundo about a society without purposes. If we accept to live without an actual democracy, without a good health and education system: we are breathing junk thinking. When we shout: the people united will never be defeated; we are talking about wise and conscious people, not about garbage thinking.
